Language Lunch: English Pronounciation

The Language Lunch series is a fun and time-saving opportunity to improve your English-language competence over a light buffet lunch which will be provided free of charge. In the winter semester, the series continues with two workshops: (1) Language Lunch: Little Building Blocks of the English Language Prepositions, Pronouns, and Determiners, and (2) English Pronunciation. You are welcome to book one or both workshops, but in any case please make sure that you register separately for each Language Lunch. 

Content

We are going to work on individual sounds as well as on intonation, focusing in particular on the following challenges: 

• Distinguishing phonetically between words that are often confused (e.g., pat and pad; chess and jazz; veil and whale) 
• Avoiding common pronunciation mistakes (e.g., company, colleague, determine, gauge, scarce) 
• Practicing clear articulation (strong vs weak syllables, pauses, pitch variation) 
• Matching intonation and sentence structure 
• Improving overall fluency
