Language Lunch: The Hit List of Common Mistakes
I am at WU since two years …. I’ll shortly explain why … let’s now look on the actual figures … it’s unsure whether this will work …
Do these sound familiar? All are examples of rather frequent errors in English. Yet they can all be easily avoided if one knows why they occur, and how they can be put right.
Avoiding avoidable mistakes: That’s essentially what this brief workshop is about. Of course, not all such errors lead directly to misunderstandings. But many do. And, just as importantly, repeated errors can give the impression of a more general lack of competence, and so undermine the message a speaker wishes to convey.
Target Group
Anyone who wishes to consolidate their English-language competence at the level of B2/C1 according to the Common European Frame of Reference for Languages (you can find a guideline for self-evaluation here >>).
Workshop Content
The workshop focuses on those areas of the English language that are known to cause particular difficulty for non-native speakers of English (particularly those whose mother tongue is German).
Method
On the basis of authentic examples (i.e., errors that other learners have made in the past) we’ll discuss mistakes with the help of the FACE approach: FIND – ANALYSE – CORRECT – EXPLAIN.
Location, date and time
Friday, 8 May 2020, 11.30 am - 2.00 pm
All registered participants will be informed of the location by email one week before the event.
