Conversing with Ease (B1+ or above)

This series of interactive workshop sessions is designed to give you the tools you need to speak clearly and confidently in a professional context, eg when dealing with students, visiting lecturers etc. After the workshop, you should feel less awkward and instead better prepared for potentially unexpected situations.

Target Group

Faculty & staff with a level of English of B1+ or above according to the Common European Frame of Reference for Languages; you can find a guideline for self-evaluation here >>.

Workshop Content

We will cover the following topics, amongst others:

  • Greetings, Introductions, Small talk, Ending conversations
  • Answering students’ queries, dealing with potentially difficult situations
  • Taking part in meetings, holding discussions, giving feedback
  • Telephoning
  • Presenting oneself, describing tasks and responsibilities

Workshop Methods

In dealing with the topics mentioned above, we will work through a wide range of practical and useful language tasks. You will be provided with language and vocabulary examples for future reference. As the group size will be kept small, there will be ample opportunity for your own individual situation to be discussed and any specific needs to be met.
