Goals

The aims of the workshop will be for you to:

  • enhance your ability to describe and explain principles, policies and practices relating to WU and other higher education (HE) institutions in English
  • increase your confidence in discussing complicated topics using specialised terminology
  • gain an insight into topical university issues beyond WU

Content

During this workshop you will:

  • develop and expand your knowledge and use of general HE terminology and language
  • discuss topical issues relevant to HE management and institutional policies (e.g. legal frameworks, current trends in higher education, etc.)
  • explore WU Term (WU’s interactive German-English glossary) and other tools to aid translation
  • consider and reflect on how you can communicate effectively in English in your own individual professional context at WU

Methods

Over the course of the three half-day sessions you will:  

  • enjoy a lively, interactive approach aimed at enhancing motivation and participation
  • engage in a variety of activities using a mixture of media types
  • practise a range of communicative styles in writing and speaking
