Classroom Management – Tools & Techniques – Troubleshooting

In university teaching, both young and more experienced academics may have a number of legitimate concerns:

• What aspects of course preparation should I consider besides selecting and structuring factual contents?
• How can I bring the students' expectations in line with my goals for the course?
• What kinds of challenges or conflicts may arise in the course, and how do I best meet them?
• How can I motivate my students for the tasks at hand?
• What tools and techniques could I use to vary my presentation mode or classroom interaction?

This workshop will address the above teaching challenges and more, by …

• Analysing and remedying potential classroom crises,
• Planning and simulating Expectation and Classroom Management,
• Providing you with Teaching Tools, Methods and Techniques
• Giving you the opportunity to benefit from prior teaching experiences.

Target Group 

Teaching staff @WU who are…

• either still finding their feet in academic teaching,
• or have been teaching for a while but are looking for a fresh take on things

Goals

• Becoming more proficient in managing the classroom and learners' expectations
• Acquiring tools and techniques for supporting the learning process
• Developing confidence and resilience in dealing with tricky classroom situations.

• Critical incident analysis,
• Peer advice and trainer consultation,
• Short presentations and feedback,
• Selection and application of teaching techniques.

Note there will be a short follow-up session in September to discuss application of the techniques acquired, exchange experience gained in the meantime, and to give an opportunity for a Q&A session.
