Focussed Minds – How to Unleash the Power of Presence, Compassion and Concentration at the Workplace and Beyond

Mindfulness - being aware - is a powerful resource for the functioning of individuals and teams at work. Strengthening mindfulness lifts the burden of unwanted stress and habits employees develop. Individuals and teams learn to make conscious choices that lead to better outcomes: for their own health, for their colleagues, for the organization and for customers. Mindfulness training has proved to be effective in accomplishing this.

Mindfulness enables:

  • the capacity for lowering one’s own reactivity (e.g., paying attention to experiences without having to react to them)
  • the skill to act with awareness and intention (not being on "automatic pilot")
  • the ability to notice and observe sensations, thoughts and feelings even though they might be unpleasant
  • the faculty to focus on experience, not the labels or judgments we apply to them (e.g., feeling an emotion rather than wondering if it is okay to feel that emotion)
  • the capability to experience compassion, joy and kindness

How mindful are you?  You can test yourself at https://hbr.org/2017/03/assessment-how-mindful-are-you.

Target Group

All employees of WU, who want to incorporate more presence, focus, clarity, creativity, kindness and balance into their work and life after work.

Please note: The workshop will take place in English. Participants should have an English level of at least B1. However, “perfect English” is not necessary, as the course is experiential!

Workshop Goals

  • This workshop will strengthen your resources to deal with the different challenges arising in your workplace and afterwork setting.
  • You get to know the scientific background to improve your understanding of how mindfulness works and increase the motivation to apply new ways of working and behavior.
  • You learn how mindfulness can be applied to specific topics from everyday work (especially meetings, mailings and communication) and improve collaboration across team/departmental boundaries
  • You practice methods and internal attitudes/mental strategies to facilitate fundamental and sustainable behavioral changes that calm and focus the mind and strengthen your connection to the body. Dealing with stress, recognizing triggers and reactions form an important aspect of the program.
  • In addition, we will practice creativity, innovation and using a beginner’s mind to uncover our underlying potential.
