Freie Plätze:
English for Meetings
Workshop Goals
In an increasing number of institutes and offices at WU (and at partner institutions), meetings of various kinds are held in English. The types of meetings themselves can range from a formal to an informal structure, with differing formats, from brainstorming to presentation-led input.
This workshop is aimed at providing anyone who wishes to prepare themselves for any such meetings with a full range of language skills and strategies required for running or participating in these professionally.
Workshop Content
The skills developed in this workshop will include chairing meetings; leading and moderating discussions including any formal procedures, organisational language (discussing and setting agendas, taking minutes, drawing up action points, etc) and formulating appropriate questions and answers. In conjunction with these more formal procedures, we will develop competences in important social communicative strategies such as small talk, managing potentially sensitive discussions, cultural differences, dealing with disagreements, and putting one’s point across, all of which will enhance the professionalism and competence of the participants.
Methods
Variety of role-play activities and exercises to provide practice in the skills and techniques in appropriate contexts. Participants will be encouraged to contribute with their own examples and experiences of holding meetings.
Location, date and time
