Getting to Grips with Grammar

Workshop Goals

This workshop is designed to give upper intermediate to advanced speakers and writers of English an opportunity to refresh and refine their knowledge and application of English grammar. Through analysing participants’ own examples of written and spoken language and by working through a wide range of practical and useful language activities, participants will be made aware of where any strengths and weaknesses lie, and where improvements can be made. The workshop will thus focus on each individual participant’s needs and personal feedback will be provided, thus strengthening confidence and awareness in a range of grammatical examples.

Workshop Content

Grammar topics may include:

  • verb tenses
  • prepositions
  • word order
  • gerund vs. infinitive
  • adjective/adverb use
  • punctuation
  • conjunctions and other linking phrases
  • further topics based on the group’s needs

Methods

The sessions will each be characterised by

  • the opportunity to focus on participants’ individual needs
  • a lively, interactive approach which enhances motivation and participation
  • a variety of media and exercise types providing a stimulating learning environment
  • detailed handouts providing practical reference materials for future use
  • the opportunity for participants to bring their own examples of work and to practice their language in both spoken and written formats
